The JB Hi-Fi Ltd (ASX: JBH) share price is under the spotlight after the ASX retail share announced its FY27 first quarter.
JB Hi-Fi has four businesses – JB Hi-Fi Australia, JB Hi-Fi New Zealand, The Good Guys ad E&S. It focuses on selling electronics and appliances.
FY27 first quarter sales update
In the period of 1 July 2026 to 30 September 2026, the company reported a mixed set of numbers.
In the first quarter, total sales growth for JB Hi-Fi Australia was a decline of 0.4% with a comparable sales decline of 1.4%.
Total sales growth for JB Hi-Fi New Zealand was 17.3%, with comparable sales growth of 10.7%.
Total sales growth for The Good Guys was a decline of 0.1%, with a comparable sales decline of 0.4%.
For E&S, the total sales growth was a decline of 3.7% with a comparable sales decline of 4.5%.
In other words, New Zealand is the only division that’s delivering growth and its key Australian businesses of JB Hi-Fi Australia and The Good Guys are seeing declines.
It said that the group continues to see variability in trading and heightened competitive activity. Customers are reportedly focused on value and increasingly shopping during promotional events.
In October, the company has seen sales slow ahead of the important Black Friday and Christmas trading periods.
JB Hi-Fi said that group will continue to focus on driving demand and growing market share by delivering great value for customers and providing “exceptional customer service”.
Is the JB Hi-Fi share price a buy?
In the past year, it’s down 38%, which is a big decline for one of Australia’s largest retailers.
If there’s a good time to invest, this could be it because of worsening economic conditions and no end in sight. It may have already hit the lowest level when it went below $65 in September.
I think it’s one of the best ASX retail shares and I’d be happy to invest today and be patient until interest rates start coming down again.
