The Washington H. Soul Pattinson and Co. Ltd (ASX: SOL), or WHSP, share price fell 0.8% after releasing numbers of its FY25 result.

WHSP is an investment business, it’s invested in areas like property, credit/bonds, telecommunications, resources, financial services and others.

FY25 result insights

The company’s FY25 reporting period just finished on 31 July 2025, but it was able to give investors an indication of its performance and also revealed what the upcoming dividend will be.

It’s expecting to show its underlying value, the net asset value (pre-tax), reached between $12.18 billion to $12.68 billion, up from $11.8 billion in FY24. Therefore, it may have risen as much as 7.5% over the financial year.

Its net cash flow from investments in FY25 is expected to be between $485 million to $535 million, up from $468 million in FY24. This is growth of between 3.6% to 14%.

WHSP’s board of directors has decided to declare a final fully franked dividend of $0.59 per share, an increase of 7.3%. The dividend was influenced by the performance of its net cashflow from investments. The dividend will be paid on 5 September 2025, which is earlier than expected.

Management commentary

The WHSP Managing Director and CEO Todd Barlow said:

Our performance remains solid during a period of heightened market volatility. Measuring our performance on a total shareholder return basis, we delivered 17.5% outperforming the All Ords Accumulation Index by +5.7% in financial year 2025. We are confident that our diversified portfolio – and recent focus on private credit and private equity – can continue generating long-term capital and income growth, with a robust liquidity position supporting new investment opportunities.

Brickworks dividend

Brickworks Ltd (ASX: BKW) also declared its final dividend of FY25, it’s going to pay a dividend per share of $0.484 per share.

The value of the dividend is equivalent to 0.82 of the final dividend per WHSP share for FY25

Brickworks said this dividend will be paid regardless of whether the merger between Brickworks and WHSP goes ahead.

This dividend will be paid on 5 September 2025.

Final thoughts on the WHSP share price

While WHSP shares continues to pay a pleasing dividend, its share price has risen strongly, so its dividend yield is not as appealing as it was a few months ago.

But, I also think WHSP is one of the best businesses around for long-term investing, as demonstrated by this year of good growth across the board for shareholders.
