Travelling in 2024?

Let’s help you successfully plan and save for your upcoming adventure! In this episode, the Rask team share their tips & tricks for your next trip.

Work backwards from your end goal

Just like Grand Designs, your holiday can easily run over budget. Try and plan 12-months out, figure out a rough budget that’s achievable, break it down over the time period. Set up a travel bank account and automate the payments.

E.g. $10,000 / 12 = $833 per month

You will probably book things as you go, so you can use this dedicated account to pay for them.

Plan further in advance to take advantage of sales – for example, sign up to newsletters for places you want to go

Plus, booking in advance gives you more time to anticipate the trip – giving you a happiness boost!

Try and avoid peak times wherever you’re off too

Something I’m unfortunately not succeeding at this year, but if you can avoid travelling during peak Summer and school holidays → queues are shorter!

Buy travel insurance in advance (on sale if you can!)

This is a non-negotiable so keep an eye our for a sale in advance! If you use, say, AMEX you may get insurance for flights paid for on the card.

Have multiple ways to access your money

I dropped my phone in the toilet

Don’t rely on just one bank and digital payment method, have access to funds in different account, plus the physical bank cards

I used the ATMs to check my balance as I wasn’t able to access my mobile banking app

Ask your family and friends (or use Trip Advisor)

Sometimes there’s nothing quite like a little experience. Tap into the knowledge of your friends or family who have gone before you. Ask them ‘what would you have done differently?’ Get multiple opinions.
