About The Events

As much as research, interviewing expert investors and learning about new strategies and companies excites me (Owen), there’s nothing quite like getting out from the behind the desk and swapping ideas with a room full of passionate investors.

Last year the combined Rask & Strawman.com event was intimate, Melbourne-only and a huge success for the guests who attended, networked and… took our experts’ #1 investment ideas on board.
It’s fair to say that since then, our community has exploded from a few thousand followers into tens of thousands of investors across our platform.
What that means is we’re able to bring some heavy hitters, ideas and an even bigger network of investors together in one place at one time.
I can’t wait!
Here’s what you can expect from our two events, Melbourne & Sydney, plus our Workshops (see further below).

About The Investing Workshops

When I — Owen here — was going through university and investing in shares, and even early in my career as a professional, I was incredibly frustrated that I couldn’t find any thorough, informative and insightful investment materials to take my investing knowledge to the next level so that I felt confident in what I was doing.

For example, even though I was already investing actively in ASX shares, I would question myself:

“Do I really know what the company is worth?
“What tricks can I use to avoid blow-ups in the accounting statements?”
“What’s the best way to properly research a company?”
“Does my valuation and modelling make sense?”
“How should I scrutinise CEOs and managers?”
“What’s the best way to use portfolio management?”

If you’re a DIY investor, lifelong learner or even have a passing interest in shares, property or investing, you will know the feeling of disappointment when you go to a finance company’s website and under the “education” tab it has endless blog posts of… MARKETING!

This is exactly where the motivation for Rask’s Workshops come from.

Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane (CBD Locations)

In an 8-hour intensive (but relaxed!) environment, our workshops will cover the following topics:

  • A thorough walk-through of our investment research process, including:
  • The best & worst business models & how to find them
  • Understanding competitive advantages & why they’re vital
  • Investor psychology & circles of competence
  • Business valuation & investment modelling walk-through
  • How to research better, faster & with more purpose
  • Portfolio management concepts, including:
  • Understanding risk
  • Risk management techniques
  • Buying & selling discipline
  • Case studies
  • Question & Answer (Q&A) sessions

These Workshop Materials Will Be Provided:

While it might sound a little daunting, the Rask team will make sure everyone gets something from the session. Attendees will also receive:

  • Our analyst induction & course materials
  • Access to a research & valuation template
  • Case study research

We’ll also supply the boring stuff like lunchtea and coffeenotepad, etc.

FAQs

Is There An Online Version?

As it stands, our Melbourne & Sydney evening events will be available online for Rask Invest Complete members via our website. You can join Rask Invest and receive a year’s worth of access (including our share research, commentary, podcasts and more) by clicking here. We may release snippets of the event footage to the public at a later time.

Do I need to be a finance expert to attend a Workshop?

Absolutely not!

The Workshops will cover topics that self-directed or aspiring DIY share investors want to know. They’re not designed for absolute beginners (e.g. “how do I buy a share?” or “can you explain what a dividend is?”).

However, chances are, you’ll really benefit from a Workshop and understand the concepts if you have ever done ANY of the following:

  • Studied finance, accounting, business or investing
  • Have run a business or managed one
  • Owned shares and studied the markets for work or as a part-time investor
  • Listened to our Investors podcast series and kept up with most (but not necessarily all) of the conversation
  • You’re simply passionate about business and investing

We will supply you with sources for materials to help you brush up on business and investing knowledge before the event. There will NOT be any tests, pop quizzes or surprise questions from Owen or other facilitators during the event.
